Our Iron IV Infusion Services
Wellspring can provide patients with any of the three IV iron options available in Canada:
- Monoferric (iron derisomaltose)
- Venofer (iron sucrose)
After we receive the referral from a physician, we provide the first appointment within one week and will set up subsequent appointments as required.
IV infusions in pregnancy usually require continuous fetal monitoring. Due to this, we are unable to provide infusions during pregnancy but are equipped to provide infusions post-partum.
Our clinic strives to provide patients with a safe, supportive, and convenient experience. The IV infusions are administered by a trained registered nurse with physician oversight. Patient chairs are designed with comfort and privacy in mind. We provide free parking, wheelchair accessibility, free wi-fi, and refreshments.
IV Iron Infusions
Iron deficiency anemia is the most common nutritional disorder. It affects 1-2% of adults and is most prevalent among women. Patients with malabsorption, with ongoing losses that exceed the capacity of the GI tract to absorb oral iron, who are intolerant to oral iron therapy, or who require large doses of iron in a short period of time may require iron infusions.
IV iron infusions may reduce the need for blood transfusions and can produce a more rapid rise in hemoglobin compared to oral iron salts.
How much do Iron infusions cost?
There are two costs associated with iron infusions: the cost of the iron product and the cost of the IV administration.
Our iron infusion products are dispensed and provided by Wellness Pharmacy. Monoferric and Venofer are PharmaCare benefit medications with Special Authority. The expert pharmacists at Wellness Pharmacy can assist with Special Authority applications if requested.
They submit claims directly to PharmaCare and private insurance for patient convenience and to reduce patient out-of-pocket costs. A full course of 1000 mg costs approximately*:
- Monoferric $540
- Venofer $365
The IV administration fee includes the cost of healthcare staff, IV materials, and clinic equipment. This may be covered by patients’ private insurance plans. Patients should check with their insurance provider to determine their eligibility. IV infusion costs are:
- Monoferric $230 (1 infusion)
- Venofer $145/infusion (may need up to 5 infusions)
*Prices may be subject to manufacturer price changes
